Over time, our skin is exposed to the sun, which causes wrinkles to form on the forehead, which unfortunately deepen with every muscle movement. This can unfortunately lead to a change in the expression of your face to a harsh, tired or angry one, even if the muscles remain in place. The sun gives us a lot of energy, improves our mood but unfortunately makes our skin lose its elasticity.
Botulinum toxin is otherwise known as Botox, it is a prescription drug that is injected into sagging muscles by a medical aesthetician, preventing wrinkles from forming with age.

What is Botox?

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, long known as botulism. It is injected into the facial muscles, weakens their action by blocking nerve impulses and wrinkles become 'ironed out', smoothed out.
The first use of the cosmetic effect of Botox was documented as early as 1989 then in 2002 it was approved in the USA by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Nowadays, it is often used in both men and women due to its less invasive procedure and less artificial appearance compared to surgery.

What is Botox for?

The primary indication for use in medical and cosmetic aesthetics, the main action being rejuvenation through wrinkle reduction:

  • "Lion's wrinkle" between the eyebrows

A person with a lion's wrinkle is perceived as being unpleasant and fussy. It is worth getting rid of this perception and having a Botox injection treatment. Remember that you will keep your natural look and get rid of the problem in a short time. Botulinum toxin is injected into the facial muscles, blocking the secretion of acetylcholine, responsible for transmitting nerve impulses to the muscles, losing their ability to contract. As a result, the muscle relaxes, while the wrinkles smooth out.

  • vertical forehead wrinkles - smoothness

To reduce wrinkles on the forehead crease, botulinum toxin is injected into two muscles: the longitudinal muscle and the brow crease muscle. When injecting the preparation into the belly of the brow crease muscle, the tip of the needle must be approximately 1 cm above the eye socket. In the correction of wrinkles at the base of the nose, depending on the length of the longitudinal muscle, the place of injection of the toxin is determined individually by the doctor dividing the dose of the preparation into one or two injections.

  • correction of horizontal forehead wrinkles

The frontalis muscle is responsible for the formation of transverse forehead wrinkles. Its function is to lift both the forehead and the eyebrows. The correction of wrinkles in this area, is linked to a very careful study of the effect of the muscle, as it affects facial expressions differently in different people. An unwanted effect after injection can be a drooping of the eyebrows, due to extensive paralysis by the botulinum toxin. To avoid this effect, the injections are made in the upper part of the brow. Depending on the area to be treated, botox is administered through 5 to 10 punctures - at least 1 to 2 cm above the orbit.

  • "crow's feet"- wrinkles around the eyes

Hyperactivity of the orbital part of the ocular circular muscle is the cause of wrinkles around the eye. The product is injected at three points down to the level of the dermis - approximately 1 cm from the edge of the orbit and 1.5 cm from the lateral angle of the eye.

  • lower eyelid wrinkles

Under the influence of the activity of the lower part of the eye circular muscle, wrinkles form on the lower eyelids. Through the use of botulinum toxin, we obtain the effect of reducing the wrinkles that occur and can also make the eyes look larger. Injection into this area, mainly concerns wrinkles that have formed naturally during the ageing process. The treatment is not recommended in the case of wrinkles caused by excessive sunbathing, use of a solarium ( photodamage). In order to increase the effectiveness and effect of the treatment, it should be combined with the correction of lateral eye wrinkles.

  • brow lift

The botulinum toxin brow lift procedure is performed by an aesthetic physician. The treatment time is approximately 20-30 minutes. During the interview, he/she individually selects the amount of preparation and the place of its administration. Administration of botulinum toxin in the correction of eye area and vertical forehead wrinkles results in a brow lift effect. This is an alternative to the surgical lifting of the eyelids and eyebrows.

  • Lifting of the corners of the mouth, "marionette" wrinkles

The cause of the so-called 'marionette' wrinkles is the lowering muscle at the corners of the mouth, whose overactivity gives the face a sad expression. By administering botulinum toxin , which is a neurotoxin, we cause partial paralysis . By weakening the function of the muscle, we restore the corners of the mouth to their natural position or, depending on the dose, produce a lifting effect.

  • smoker's wrinkles around the mouth

The cause of wrinkles in this area is contraction of the circular muscle of the mouth, as well as excessive tanning, tanning beds and progressive ageing of the skin. By administering a small amount of the preparation, the lines around the mouth are reduced and their appearance improved. In the case of wrinkles around the mouth, fillers are usually used (hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite). By combining these techniques, a better result is obtained.

  • treatment of migraine

Headaches that are recurrent, long-lasting and extremely intense are symptom-related and prevent normal activity. The headache doctor carries out an examination of which parts of the head muscles are pressing, kneading or irritating the nerves responsible for the migraine. He or she then injects the appropriate amount of preparation into the selected parts of the muscles, which are blocked and relaxed. The correct amount of preparation prevents the occurrence of pain and the blockade of nerve endings lasts for 4-6 months.

  • treatment of bruxism, non-surgical correction of the jaw

It is a condition that causes pathological friction of the teeth otherwise known as grinding, which most often occurs at night. It causes loosening of teeth, abrasion of dental crowns, cracking of enamel and can cause chronic headaches. Its causes include excessive stress, over-sensitivity to stress or malocclusion. The administration of Botox causes the masseter muscle to relax, which, over time, shrinks, causing the grinding of teeth to stop and visually slimming the face, which becomes oval from square.

  • treatment of hyperhidrosis: armpits, hands, feet
  • correction of a child's smile - gummy smile

It is an anatomical condition that is associated with excessive gum exposure in some people when smiling, laughing. It is a common cause of their embarrassment. Correction involves injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin on either side of the nasolabial furrow into the masseter muscle of the upper lip, about 0.5 cm from the wings of the nose.

  • uncontrolled nostril dilatation

In some people, under the influence of emotions, there is a varying degree of uncontrolled dilatation of the nostrils. During the procedure, the site of botulinum toxin injection is the two sides of the lower nasal muscle-above the lateral wings of the nose.

  • tip of the nose

Botulinum toxin injected into the tip of the nose is intended to lift it. The treatment is aimed at people who have experienced a natural drooping of the skin with the progressive ageing process.

  • rabbit wrinkles - nose wrinkles

The natural working of the nasal muscles involved in expressing our emotions like laughing or getting angry contributes to the formation of bunny wrinkles. They become much more visible if we have previously undergone wrinkle reduction treatments of the glabella or eye area. During the treatment, the preparation is administered high above the lateral nasal wall, but not in the area of the nasolabial fissure, as this can cause a messy drooping effect of the lips. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the activity, the amount of use of the nasal muscle.

  • chin folds

The formation of dimples on the chin is caused by the amount of collagen and subcutaneous fat tissue decreasing with age, as well as an increase in the activity of the chin muscle. The preparation is administered in two doses, close to the jawbone - in the two elevations of the chin. An additional effect of the treatment is to prevent the protrusion of the lower lip, which increases with age.

  • Circular neck wrinkles, turkey neck

The broad neck muscle, which extends from the jaw to the collarbone area, is responsible for the formation of wrinkles in the neck. Its work, contractions contribute to the formation of both horizontal and transverse wrinkles on the neck and also parts of the décolletage. The botulinum toxin preparation is administered anteriorly, thus reducing its function and alleviating the formation of vertical wrinkles.

  • wrinkles on the neckline

There are many factors that cause wrinkles on the décolleté; they are formed during sleep, during excessive sunbathing, the use of tanning beds, the skin ageing process and are also caused by the pectoralis major and wide neck muscles. In this case, the aesthetic practitioner individually selects the amount of preparation and places of its administration. A good way to correct wrinkles on the décolleté is to combine several treatments: needle mesotherapy, platelet-rich plasma-REGENERIS.

What are the side effects after the procedure?

  • erythema at the injection site
  • small haematomas
  • secondary superinfection
  • a feeling of heaviness in the forehead
  • unevenly placed eyebrows
  • eyelid drooping
  • double vision
  • excessive tearing
  • soreness at the injection site - especially in the treatment of hyperhidrosis

Course of treatment: Your aesthetic doctor will have a qualifying interview with you, during which he will give you the necessary information about the procedure. You can ask him or her any questions you may have - he or she will be sure to answer them all!

Before the procedure, make-up is removed, the insertion sites are disinfected with 70% isopropyl alcohol. The doctor injects the prepared preparation of botulinum toxin intramuscularly into pre-selected parts of the muscles using a sterile syringe with a very thin needle. The number of doses of the preparation used is selected individually for each patient. During administration of the preparation, discomfort is slight, described as a mosquito sting, slight pain. The treated area usually does not require anaesthesia. Duration of treatment: 20-30 min.
